Task 2: Typographic Expression and Communication
The task is a combination of the previous two exercises we did for task 1. We were assigned to express the chosen content in a 2 page editorial spread (200mm x 200mm). We were given the choice of 3 passages. In this exercise, we have to be able to match the typography expression with the context of the passage. We were also required to make a readable layout.

Task requirements:
- Use only the 10 typefaces given
- Good layout is when the headline expression has a connection with the content
- Sketches and digitized sketch are required as part of the process

Headlines
-Use Adobe Illustrator to create interesting headlines
- Only minor graphical elements

Body text
-Use Adobe Indesign to compose the layout
-Only minor graphical elements
-No pictures

Submission requirements:
-Spread size: 2 pages (200mm x 200mm) on each page
- File size: 300ppi (grayscale)
- Format: 2 JPEGs and 2 PDFs (with and without grids)

Headlines Expression Exploration
I tried my first idea which was to bring out the word build. I had the thought of making stairs going upwards to express that the word is building up as the definition of the word build in this context was to build up one's self. Therefore, I made the stairs to represent someone building themselves or a way up to be better.

My second idea was to bring out the same word again which is build but in this context I made it look like the letters in the word was built upwards like a building but the illusion of the stairs is still there to bring out the same meaning.

Layouts Exploration
With the headlines above, I explored on the layout of the content and headlines to make sure they compliment each other.

Feedback
Week 6
General Feedback: Don't use black to fill up half a page to make contrast.
Specific Feedback:
The layout is relatively safe. Explore more on the type expression and layout. There are rives in text.

Week 7
General Feedback: Be careful while using Bodoni as it is not an ideal font choice for body text.

Specific Feedback: Don't make the layout too compact.

Reflection
Experience
For task 2, we had to show progress in our assignment. There was a lot of mistakes that I did in this task as I was not that good at making the headlines. I spend most time trying to come out with my headlines that compliments the content yet readable for the viewers. Other than that, I faced issue on making the headlines as my design was too common as it looked like the others' work but at the same time it does not. During the feedback time, Mr. Vinod gave feedbacks that helped mine as I had almost the same issue when it comes to the body contents.

Observations
I was able to work on the task even though I had other modules to work on too compared to the first project. The whole time I see myself procrastinating lesser than I used to which is a great achievement to me. Other than that, I see myself being able to remind myself to record my progress and put in more progression part into the blog.

Findings
I see myself being able to make the content less compact after we were introduced to making the layout blocks. I found that going through layout designs on Pinterest was a great source of getting some ideas on this task. I still see myself being confused on this task. I hope that I can learn better for the next task.

The Vignelli Canon by Massimo Vignelli (2010)

In part two, I've also learnt about white spaces. The white space on printed page is the correspondent of space in architecture. Tight margins establish a tension between text. Wider margins deflate the tension and bring a level of serenity to the page.

Tight space setting makes the words into line but in a loose type setting. Making a change in the kerning confers the distinctive character and expression to words. The relationship between size of type and space around it is one of the most delicate and precious elements of a composition. For most designers, white space is the most essential element of a composition.

Therefore, it is important to manage the spaces to have some white spaces in order to make the composition less packed and free flow.
