WEEK 1
Introduction :
On the first week, Mr Fauzi gave us a peek on what we would be learning throughout this semester through the MIB given. Mr Fauzi talked on the importance of photoshop for graphic designer and tips on how to become a successful graphic designer.

Compostiton studies: Collage


PRACTICAL

We were assigned to do some practical work as the following:

1. Setting up e-portfolio and pinterest board: 3 fav graphic design work

2. Choose and describe why those work are our favourite.

3. Prepare materials (cutout magazines or printed pictures) for physical collage Week 2.


1.1  Artwork from Pinterest


Description: When I first saw this poster, I was impressed with the illustration which was able to capture the old style of Japanese illustration.

This poster expressed:
The usage of the red moon with the white background at the back incorporates the Japanese flag.The usage of the bamboo plant tells the viewer that the poster relates to Japan as the folklore about the princess bamboo.The opacity being manipulated in order to create layering on the bamboo.



1.2  Artwork from Pinterest


Description:

When I saw this poster, I was reminded when I was a little child playing around enjoying life. I was impressed by the combination of illustrations and photography method that was used to produce this masterpiece.


This poster expressed:
This illustration is for a magazine most likely something related to childhood plays. The vintage style color palette used in the illustration compliments the overall setting of the image. The overall concept is about bringing back the nostalgic memories of the past. It shows that the main subject (girl) is looking back at her past.



1.3 Artwork from Pinterest

Description:
When I saw this poster, I was impressed by the overall compilation of different elements yet having the same meaning to the poster. The composition of the elements is somewhat mesmerizing with all the different elements.


The poster expressed:
The asymmetrical and symmetrical arrangement used in the poster in terms of the composition compliments the background well while telling us the Vietnamese region. The collage method used in the poster making compliments the arrangement well. The poster is made for Viet Nguyen Design.



PROJECT 1A: COLLAGE DESIGN ELEMENTS

For this project, we had to bring some cutout materials like magazines,newspapers and so on to create a collage design. Using the materials we have, we were required to make three composition of collage and choose the best one.

I printed some materials I found on Pinterest. I was struck with an idea of creating a funky yet meaningful collage. The whole concept of the collage is about running away from the gazes of the world to live free. From all the composition, they tell the same story in a different scene. The main elements are the eyes as they represent the fact that we are being watched. Therefore, it signifies that the privacy is invaded. The car driving away from the gazes signifies a runaway from reality.

PROJECT 1B: DIGITAL COLLAGE (WEEK 3)
For this project, we were given a gdrive with some images for us to use to make 3 collages with different compisition digitally. The work is required to be in an A4 size in a vertical orientation.

PROJECT 1B: DIGITAL COLLAGE (WEEK 4)
For this week, we were required to choose one out of the three composition that we like from last week's task to be elevated more by using filters. I chose my first composition as I had a gist of how I wanted to elevate it.

Since we were free to do anything to the image given, I used some part of the elements by using the lasso tool. I made use of the lasso tool by cropping off the eyes to use it as the meteors. Using free transform, I was able to manipulate the form of the building and the liquid texture to obtain the shape that I wanted. I wanted to recreate the moments before the extinction of dinosaurs in the early age. The compilation does not really complete eachother as they were all different in terms of color, lighting and more.

I started with duplicating one layer to fill up the negative space between the elements at the background. I added masked solid colors to the main elements of my composition to match all of them so they can compliment each other. I showed Mr Fauzi the change in colour and he agreed with that method. I added gradient color overlay to the meteors to make them look more realistic by putting the color transitioning from red to orange then yellow to give it a fiery look.



I played around with the hue and saturation to match the depth of the elements. I also added brightness and contrast to the whole canvas as the elements were looking a little too bright that it was hurting my eyes to look at it. 








The background was not complimenting well with the elements as it was just a dull tone color background. I grouped all the elements to put on curves and levels adjustment under them so it does not affect the elements but only the background. 

I was in love with the idea of having a soft pastel color as it looks quite dreamy. I like the combination of making the outcome to look dreamy but also a nightmare (extinction). I wanted it to seem like it's a good thing that the dinosaurs extinct for the human being but they died at a sad cause. Therefore, it feels like it is like a nightmare for them (dinosaurs) to die from the impact of the meteors.








I did some gradient overlay on the bits of land flying around the skies to make it look like the meteors have fallen and the ground exploded into the air. The gradient color transitioning from the color purple to magenta then light pink.

PROJECT 1B: EXERCISE 1 (PHOTO MANIPULATION - HEARST MANSION)
We were given the task to follow the tutorial to edit shazam into the background of the hearst mansion as the first task.

Our second task is to do the same process but with our own image as the replacement of shazam.

PROJECT 1B: EXERCISE 2 (RECOLORING BLACK AND WHITE)
For this task, we were given the tutorial slides on how to recolor a black and white image. Mr Martin showed us from the first to final step on doing it through his video tutorial. It was easy to catch on and work on this task.

EXERCISE 2
Part 1
For this exercise, we were given an image to recolor it with the guidance given by Mr Martin by learning to pick a skintone and hair color from a source. After that, we were given the choice to pick an image given in a google drive to recolor it however we wanted to by looking for the skintone and haircolor from the internet as our pallette.
